Are you ever asked to make impromptu speeches? Does the thought fill you with dread?
The word impromptu means something done in the spur of the moment. As the word implies, an impromptu or extemporaneous (on the spot) speech is a type of speech a speaker delivers with little to no prior preparation.
At Toastmasters we regularly practice impromptu speaking in the Table Topics section of our meeting. Whilst you might be filled with dread the first couple of times you take part in Table Topics, you’ll soon find your feet delivering an off the cuff speech.
Fancy giving it a go? Clever Communicators are holding a Table Topics Marathon – a whole night dedicated to impromptu speaking – on Wednesday 7 April. Click here to save your seat (you will be asked to register on zoom).
